Terrafame starts codetermination talks to reduce staff

State-owned multi-metal and battery chemicals company Terrafame decided to reduce staff as a part of its austerity measures to save at least EUR 10 million annually, said the company in a press release on Friday.

The company started change negotiations concerning its entire personnel on production-related and financial grounds in this regard.

The negotiations concern both potential reduction of personnel, temporary layoffs and changing working arrangements.

According to the company’s initial estimate, the maximum personnel reduction need would be in total 120 person-years.

Temporary layoffs of up to 90 days, changes to job descriptions and working-time arrangements are also considered in the negotiations.

The target is to achieve annual savings of at least EUR 10 million.

At the end of December 2025, Terrafame employed a total of 887 people.

Earlier in August 2025, the company laid off 120 employees.

The company also reduced 30 person-years in December 2024.
