European Union's (EU's) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels on Wednesday, with both agreeing that Europe must take on a larger role within the military alliance, reported Xinhua.
"We agree that we must work together on strengthening Europe's contribution to NATO. A more European NATO is long overdue," Kallas wrote on social media platform X following the talks.
Their meeting also touched upon topics including the Ukraine crisis, Iran's latest retaliatory strikes, and European military preparedness, according to Kallas.
Kallas also announced that EU defense ministers will meet in Brussels next Tuesday to discuss ways to ramp up Europe's contribution to NATO, as well as the implications of the Middle East conflict for EU security and defense.
