Man held in Germany after injuring 4 on high-speed train

A man has been detained after slightly injuring four people on a high-speed train in southern Germany, police said on Thursday, reported dpa.

The incident took place in Strasskirchen, in the southern state of Bavaria.

The suspect is said to have used multiple dangerous objects in the attack, a police spokesman said, with authorities searching for a motive.

Police said the man was also injured in the incident – "more severely" than the others.

He is in police custody and is receiving medical treatment.

The train was on its way from Hamburg to Vienna with 500 passengers on board.

The line was suspended with up to 150 emergency rescue workers and police officers responding to the incident in a major operation.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

The national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, expressed sympathy for those affected and their families.

"Our thoughts and sympathy are with the injured and all those who now have to come to terms with what they have experienced," said a railway spokesman. "We wish all those affected a speedy and full recovery."

He also thanked the emergency services for the quick arrest of the suspect.
