French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot condemned on Tuesday the continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon, calling on the warring parties to cease fire, reported Xinhua.
"We recognize Israel's right to self-defense … but nothing can justify the continuation of military operations and prolonged occupation by Israel deep within Lebanese territory," Barrot said on France 2 television channel.
"That is why we have called for a ceasefire, for Hezbollah to stop attacking Israel, and for Israel to stop attacking Lebanon," he said.
The minister also defended the ban on Israel displaying offensive weapons at the Eurosatory defense exhibition scheduled to take place in Paris in two weeks.
"Only defensive equipment may be displayed," Barrot said, emphasizing that this restriction is "fully consistent with the decisions we have made in the past."
