European trade chief said on Friday that the European Union (EU) stands ready to defend its interests after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 50-percent tariffs on all EU goods effective June 1, reported Xinhua.
Maros Sefcovic, European commissioner for trade and economic security, stressed in a post on social media platform X that trade between the EU and the United States "must be guided by mutual respect, not threats."
"The EU's fully engaged, committed to securing a deal that works for both. The EU Commission remains ready to work in good faith," he wrote.
