
The driver of a high-speed train (TGV) was killed and 13 others injured after the train collided with a truck in the northern French department of Pas-de-Calais on Tuesday morning, reported Xinhua, quoting local media.
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said that the collision occurred between the towns of Bethune and Lens.
The TGV, carrying approximately 250 passengers, struck the truck at a railroad crossing. Two people were seriously injured and 11 others sustained minor injuries, according to the latest official toll. Earlier reports had put the number of injured at 27.
The truck was part of a special convoy transporting French military equipment, and the truck driver is now in police custody.
The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
