British PM breaks transparency rules over wife's shareholdings

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has failed to properly declare his wife's shareholding in a childcare firm that would benefit from government support, reported Xinhua, quoting a report published by the country's Parliament said on Wednesday.

The failure, though, was "inadvertent," Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Daniel Greenberg concluded in the report, noting that Sunak had confused the concept of registration with that of declaration of interests.

"I decided to conclude my inquiry by way of the rectification procedure," Greenberg said. "I confirm that the matter is now closed."

Greenberg launched the investigation in April into a potential breach of transparency rules relating to Sunak's links to the childcare company, where his wife is an investor.

"I am pleased that this matter will now be concluded by way of rectification," Sunak said in a letter to the commissioner.
